Happy New Year!
Wow, can you believe that it is 2012 already? Where has the time gone? Let's see if we can do a recap here for you - by that I mean, let's see what I can remember.
January - Cold... Grey... COLD. Pretty much wraps that month up. Well, that and I continued to work out at the gym to lose my winter weight that I have acquired over eighteen plus winters of marriage. What can I see, I like being the jolly guy apparently - and in case you were wondering, I still have a bit of weight to lose, not as much as before, but still more than I am proud of.
February - Work is starting to take its toll on our hero as he is coming to the realization that he has a job that has no description and has two bosses that have no idea what to do with each other let alone with him. This will prove to be an interesting time in his life as he tries to work out all of this while keeping his multiple bosses happy, as well as, those who look to him for guidance and the like. I also think that we had a "snow day" for work - paid even, because of a pretty big snow storm. Or it could have happened in March, like I said I am trying to remember these things, and I am not relying on the blog, which seems odd to me now that I think about it.
March - Danny turned five, which means there is a Disney trip in his near future- lucky kid. Oh wait, what's that, we get to go too? Sa-weet! Now June is gonna rock way more than it normally does. Jenni also had a birthday, and if I say so myself - which I always do - she looks great! I am so blessed to have her as my wife and best friend.
April - Pretty blase' month to tell you the truth, as I don't think anything really happened then, other that the promise of a great vacation in two months and some better weather.
May - Maggie received her first Holy Communion in May, she is growing up so fast. Andy also finished his sophomore year at Loras.
June - Dominated by a certain trip to a certain magical place in Florida, I am sure I might have mentioned it a few times, and I bet I added some pictures as well. And since I didn't blog nearly as much as I liked in 2011, it shouldn't be too hard to find, right? Jenni and I celebrated our nineteen years together in Orlando, granted we weren't there on the actual date of our anniversary, but it was close enough.
July - the shoes started dropping at work. I was put back on the bench, which really wasn't a bad thing, since I really don't believe that there was much focus on the top and it enabled me to feel productive once again and start working and earning some over time pay again, which is always very helpful, let me tell you. The country celebrated it's 235th anniversary, even with the knuckleheads in Washington doing their best to bankrupt us and make us start to burn like Rome did so many centuries ago. Will 2012 show any kind of changes, probably not since they are all politicians that care more about themselves then anything else, which is really sad and I am pretty sure that the founders are rolling their eyes while rolling in their graves over what has become of this once fine republic. Oh yeah, and Timmy turned two!
August - brought the school year back to a start and a trip to Wisconsin for me - my first work onsite in almost five years. It was nice to get that change of pace, but I really do miss my family while away, and I don't think that I could ever see myself doing that kind of work for very long. A week every now and again, might be okay, but I would really rather just hang loose at home and soak in the atmosphere and climate.
September - brought Katie closer to the teen years and brought a close to a chapter at work that involved my direct supervisor for almost five years leaving the company to pursue other opportunities - in other words he was shown the door because they felt that the issues brought up by him were just too dang logical or something and we can't have anybody thinking like that now can we? Never mind the fact that in the few months he has been gone, we have started to implement changes that he wanted to do all along. Guess he was just too smart for them.
October - brought Benjy closer to the end of his teen years and Jessie fully enveloped into hers. Oh and I had a birthday as well. I also started writing daily at 750words.com. I have well over 100,000 words written that will make a great work some day. Only if it can be deciphered by the few that are as crazy as I am I imagine. It also inspired me to get back to blogging here on a regular basis, starting with today, we'll see how long and well it will last and go. I do want to make the time to pursue it though, as I think I am finally realizing how important it is to me.
November - Maggie has one year left in the single digits, and apparently still rules the roost when it comes to me. Yes, she is my baby girl and all but there should be better limits set by me I think. I may learn this one day. The weather hasn't been to bad and there was this quarterback for the Denver Broncos that started doing some pretty amazing and heroic things, well that and his awesome defense and special teams - more on them later, and by later I do not necessarily mean in this post.
December - Saw the end of an era for one of my children, illegal drinking. That's right, Andy became a full-fledged legal drinker at the ripe old age of twenty-one. Talk about culture shock, and the fact that he can drink me under a table does concern me, until I look back at my early twenties and say "Thank God I am still alive." Hopefully he will be able to look back in twenty plus years and say the same thing. Jenni got herself an iPad for Christmas, I got a Kindle Fire, Benjy and Jessie got iPod touches, Katie got a Kindle... So we will be ignoring the rest of the family now I imagine. I am kidding, besides Maggie has used my Kindle more than I have.
Not much of a review, but it really wasn't going to be anyway, I mean 365 days is a lot of stuff to remember. So here is what I hope to accomplish for this year - which has 366 days in it by the way, I plan to write more and take more photographs - at least one entry of both per day on the blog, although the pictures might be posted once a week - I haven't decided yet. I also want to try to read three books per month, and write a review for each one read, there will be pages dedicated to these things, so if you want to just see my pictures look at the picture page, if you want to see what I have read, look at the books read page and if you want to see what those voices in my head keep saying, well just keep on coming back.
Together we are going to make 2012 an awesome year, so let's get on with it, okay?
P.S. - That is totally my artwork at the top of the page, it took me all of thirty eight seconds to make, I hope you like it.

2009 - I Barely Knew Ya!
Hi!
Hello?
Anyone still out there?
I see you.
Just checking, because I know that I have been enjoying life, liberty and all those fun pursuits lately, that I almost forgot all about you. Have no fear though, as I am back.
With a vengeance.
Okay, maybe that is a little bit harsh, but I am here and here am I.
I have been debating about doing one of those year-end list kind of posts, but that would mean that I would have to actually remember what has happened in the past twelve months. Sure I could go back and read what happened this year, via this blog, but that would take a lot of time as I have posted quite a bit. In fact, if you are bored this weekend, give it a try and let me know what you think.
So, now I just have to figure out how I going to go about this whole year in review thingy. I could do the year politic , entertainment , books , etc. But you can follow those links to get a sampling of that. Remember, they get paid to do it. I think.
As you can see, by that small sampling, there is a lot of this stuff out there.
To me though, the year boils down to this... One in college, five in between, one in diapers, seventeen-plus years of marriage, everyone happy, and healthy (still working on wealthy and wise (although I do consider my family to be very wise, I don't want to be accused of bragging)).
Andy - My college freshman is doing great and as I am writing this, he is watching his favorite show (One Tree Hill) and relaxing. It's good to be the king, or something like that. P.S. don't tell him I told you his favorite show - he'll deny it anyway.
My in-between, Benjy, Jessie, Katie, Maggie, and Danny are all doing well with gymnastics, soccer (Benjy), softball (Jessie and Katie) and just being great kids. School work is an area where they can pick up the pace a little bit, and I am sure that 2010 will see them excel there.
Timmy - My child in diapers is, well, a child in diapers. Seriously though, I don't think a moment goes by when he isn't either smiling or bringing a smile to our faces. If his first five months are any indication, we will be having a blast watching him grow up. As with the rest.
Jenni and I are still happy. Happy to be together. Happy to have our handful of children. Happy to have our health and happy to have great friends. I can think of no one I would rather spend the rest of my life with. Period.
I would like to end on a laugh, and since I don't spend too much time on the web (yeah right!), I leave it to others to find my funny videos and stories, like this one
from Nunly at Bad Habit...
I hope that your 2009 was a great year, I know mine was (well, I will once I get done reading all those posts from this year) and may 2010 bring you many blessings, and a lottery win (don't forget to share).
God Bless!!

Um, can I go back to eating at Mom's?
All better now.

Star Wars Saturday
"Help me Obi Wan Kenobi..."
So how awesome is it to enjoy one of the greatest movies from your past, with your three=year old son?
Pretty darn awesome, let me tell you.
What started out as replacing my dead TV, (no I don't have my new awesome 52 inch. Yet.) with another old television (heck why not, right?) from the garage turned into a great time with Danny. And to think, all I was doing was making sure that the surround sound was working properly, by popping in Star Wars episode VI Return of the Jedi of course. Next thing I know, Danny is asking what I was doing, then what I was watching. I honestly wasn't even watching it because I had a bad video cable, and it was actually the closing credits anyway.
So, I started it at the beginning, actually thinking it was Star Wars episode IV, with Danny there. Then Jenni suggested that I watch it with Danny...
No problem, except.
The clock downstairs said it was already eight, and I wasn't about to have Danny stay up watching Star Wars until ten thirty, or so.
Bummer.
However, as you may recall, we just did that whole fall back an hour, and it was actually only seven. Danny came down, excitedly, to let me know; "Dad, it's only seven!"
Back to awesome.
Then I started thinking, why start with the third film (yes I know that VI equals six, but George Lucas wanted to start in the middle trilogy, which is a whole other story), when I can start with the first. So I popped it in, and the great 20th Century Fox fanfare plays followed by that great John Williams score!
Magic!
On a side note, my back speakers kept cutting out, which was quite annoying considering that most of the dialog was on those channels.
Now I would love to tell you that Danny was completely enamored with the fifty-four minutes that we watch, but I can't. He's three!
Anyway, it was a great end to a perfectly lovely day in which I brought my van's true color out by washing it, and I put the plastic up on the back porch to keep those evil, and cold, winter winds from being quite annoying, not to mention sucking any and all heat away, whenever we open the back door. Oh, and we cleaned up the backyard, so we're not as trailer trashy anymore.
However, the best part f the day was watching Star Wars with Danny, by far.
I wonder if Jenni will let us watch all six.

Sunday Shots #2
Okay, so my plan for having weekly shots has got off to a stumbling start, but I'm not gonna let that keep me down. Besides, you know I have to have some Halloween shots, right? Enjoy.
Innocent Bystanders
Pumpkin Fun!
Messy Work
This is just wrong!
"Dad, I want my pumpkin to look like this!"
Laura Ingalls - played by Katie
Black Cat played by Maggie
'Bubble Bath' played by Jessie
"Trick or Treat!"
The Glendale "Human Being" and a hesitant Ninja played by Benjy and his buddy Dominic.
(Yes, that's my son in white.)

In order to understand Benjy's costume, you have to have seen the show "Community" on NBC. I personally, cannot explain it further, you will have to watch the show for yourself. :)
Happy Halloween!!

Forty-Two
"Yes! Now..."
"All right," said the computer, and settled into silence again. The two men fidgeted. The tension was unbearable.
"You're really not going to like it," observed Deep Thought.
"Tell us!"
"All right," said Deep Thought. "The answer to the Great Question..."
"Yes!..."
"Of Life, the Universe and Everything..." said Deep Thought.
"Yes!..."
"Is..." said Deep Thought, and paused.
"Yes!..."
"Is..."
"Yes...!!!...?"
"Forty-two," said Deep Thought, with infinite majesty and calm.
~ from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
I have been waiting my whole life (well, technically I read the book, for the first time, about twenty years ago, but 'my whole life' sounds way more impressive, right?) for that quote to be used, and now I have a full year to have it apply to me. Well, in some weird sort of manner, but it's only weird if you don't want to grasp the concept by it's tail and swing it around the blogosphere.
Or something like that.
Yes, dear friends, I am now the ripe old age of forty-two. What does that mean, exactly? I have no idea, but it gave me an idea of something to write. Finally.
A list of things that I have found to be true, about me, after forty-two years of life. Ready? Here goes...

Yes, dear friends, I am now the ripe old age of forty-two. What does that mean, exactly? I have no idea, but it gave me an idea of something to write. Finally.
A list of things that I have found to be true, about me, after forty-two years of life. Ready? Here goes...
- I am a son of God and I am very content with that. I do not tell you what to believe, although I will tell you what I believe.
- I am very fortunate to be married to a saint. I'm not taking that lightly, because if you have seen me at my worst, and can still love me, then you are indeed a saint in my book. I love you Jenni, always have and always will.
- I am very stubborn at times.
- I do not like not knowing something, and do come across as an arrogant ass at times. To all you that I have offended, please accept my sincerest apologies. I do not mean to offend or belittle you. I just get very excited, in my little head, when I know something, and then am shocked that you don't also know the same things. It's because I think you are smarter than me, believe it or not.
- I do not have a very strong relationship with my parents - I have no idea why. Used to be very close, but once I left home, it's like they moved on with my chapter in their life. Their loss, as well as, mine.
- I do have a very strong relationship with my in-laws. For that I am eternally grateful.
- I am still a huge Denver Broncos fan. Don't even try to change me, because it isn't going to happen.
- Children. I have seven children.
- Andy - our oldest, is away at college now, and I have to admit that I didn't think he would be able to handle it. His track record definitely didn't lead me to believe it was possible. I was wrong. And I am very glad that I was wrong. I love you Andy.
- Benjy - #2, but never lost in the shuffle. You are going to be driving soon, and I am sure that you will tackle this challenge head on, like you handle all the rest. Outstanding soccer player, and very smart. Which is good, because you now say that you want to go to Notre Dame.
- Jessie - My oldest daughter, and the one that will always be there to take care of someone in the family, be it your brothers or sisters, or eventually your parents. You are a very sweet girl and don't EVER let anyone tell you differently.
- I should comment at this time that I am not dying, even though it seems like I am writing this as some sort or memorial from me, it's not my intent. Maybe I should stop with the kids for a while.
- I like to write, I don't like to edit. If I ever plan on succeeding as a writer at some point in my life, I will have to learn how to edit better.
- I am not perfect.
- I still have 20/15 vision, however, I think those days are quickly leaving me. Especially when the print gets smaller, and there is less light.
- I love to read still.
- I have no money, and I really don't care. After all life isn't all about money, even though society tries to make it so. Would I like a little bit more? Sure, who wouldn't? However, at this point, I have no money.
- Disney World is the best place to go visit on vacation. Sure, the Grand Canyon is nice. Sure, there are cheaper vacations. However, I would take a Disney World vacation over just about any other. Except maybe a trip to Scotland.
- Living in the Chicago area is great, as long as you don't watch the politics.
- Hot humid weather sucks.
- Icy, windy weather also sucks.
- I am learning to enjoy camping.
- I need to learn how to fish, my girls want me to teach them.
- My time in the Air Force looked a lot worse while I was still in, as opposed to now, as I watch my brothers reach retirement age, before they even turn forty!
- I have two brothers, two brother in-laws, and four sister in-laws.
- I have two nephews and four nieces.
- I love playing Fantasy Football.
- I love Plurk.
- I enjoy Facebook.
- I have written more in my head, than on paper or computer.
- I need to get out more, and exercise.
- I'm pretty lazy. Which means I am pretty much overweight.
- I love Beef Stroganoff. Jenni's is the best, by far.
- Kaitlynn - My cuddle bug. She can be one of the sweetest girls, yet at a moments notice, she can be pretty mean. I assume this is normal, as it seems that all of my girls are like this, and not a result of my mental illness.
- Yes, I have a mental illness, and take medication for it.
- Margaret - My baby girl, she brightens my day every time I see her smile. There is a strong belief that she is my favorite child, amongst those that like to discuss these sorts of things. True, she is a favorite, but I have room for seven favorites.
- Danny - Holy cow, what an expressive boy. I cannot wait to see what he will grow up to be, he is very imaginative and has a huge heart.
- Timmy - Even though you have only been around for three months, they have been a pure joy. I just hope that I can be there for you, the way I have been for your siblings. I need to remember that what may seem old to me, id brand new to you.
- I do not like my job.
- I do not like lists.
- There is only one more thing I will say in this list.
- is not the answer to Life the Universe and Everything.
Whew! That's out of the way, so now I can get into some "real" writing.
Thank you for tolerating my narcissistic nature, it really isn't all about me.

Evening Ritual
I am the father of seven children.
At one point in each and every day, I tend to tell the children to go to bed, then tuck them in and the house gets really quiet.
It's nice.
Now, I should mention that technically, I only do this for four of my children. The oldest two, are beyond Daddy tucking them in, and are responsible for their own bed times. I still wake them up though, so it's not all paradise. Okay, I really only have to wake them up on an occasional Sunday morning, after I have dragged my tired butt out of bed. Happy?
That being said, the remaining four do have certain rituals that we go through. Maggie and Katie share a room, so they both HAVE to go to bed at the same time, otherwise the other will get mad and start whining, etc. In September, you can bet that Katie will remind me of my "you're not ten yet" rule, as she turns ten then. Anyway, we get them into bed and either Jenni or myself will lead them through our evening prayers. Then they get thirsty, or have to go to the bathroom, or have a headache, or can't find a stuffed animal, etc.
Good times.
Jessica is easy, and unfortunately, the one I tend to "forget." Actually, it's more like I am preoccupied by the evil computer, or some television show. Either way, she will patiently await my arrival downstairs to wish her a good night. With a kiss, a few good nights, a few I love you's, and a few sleep goods. Almost like clockwork, she will be off to the bathroom within half an hour. I usually don't notice, since I am upstairs while she is down, and there is a bathroom down there.
So sweet.
Which leads me to Danny. To give you an example of our routine, I present the following:
Me: Okay buddy, time for bed.
Danny: Dad, dad, dad, where's my fuzzy blanket?
M: I don't know.
D: I need it!
M: Okay, let me see if I can find it.
(three minutes later)
M: Here's your blanket.
D: Not that one. This one.
M: You had it the whole time?
D: No, what?
M: Okay, let's pray. In the name of the...
D: Dad wait! Where's Buzz?
M: Wha? Oh, he's right here and here (pointing to pictures on the wall)
D: Why isn't he here, Dad?
M: Those are just planets and space ships buddy.
D: Okay, kiss.
M: In the name of the...
D: Wait!
M: now what Danny?
D: There's Thomas and James and Percy, lots of them
M: Yes Danny, there are, it's your border.
D: Oh. Thomas James and Percy. Kiss now.
M: In the name of...
D: WAIT! I Start it.
M: Okay, go.
D: In the name of the Father
We do the following with Danny:
Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
May angels watch me through the night,
And keep me in their blesssed sight.
After that, he's pretty much ready to go to sleep. One more kiss, and I am free!
Now don't go thinking that I am complaining, because I'm not. I mean before I know it, none of them will "need" me to tuck them in and give them a kiss goodnight - then I'll start complaining.
Good night and God Bless!

Planet of the Dead
That of which I am speaking , is that of which I am watching.
Pay no attention to that, because Jenni just changed the channel - ooh NCIS!!
Yes folks I am live-blogging my evening here at the Miller household, at 10:10PM (*waving to all of you fleeing in terror). Actually I'm done doing the live blog thingy, because it's pretty dull to be honest.
College preparation, day one. WOW!
Andy is one lucky kid, and has some AWESOME grandparents!! And if he didn't say it, I will. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
It helps when you answer the following question: "So what will you bring with you, when you head out to school next month?" (I Know!!) Wanna know his answer? Are you sure? Okay, here it is: "Clothes."
Lights and sirens started going off in every one's head, except Andy's of course. A plan of action was formulated, followed by a trip to Wal-Mart. Two very full carts later...
Like I said, thank you Nana and Poppa! You rock!!
I should explain the title, right? It's a Doctor Who episode, one that sends our fearless time lord to, you guessed it, the Planet of the Dead. Ooh scary. Actually, I found it to be very entertaining, but Jenni saw it already, so we're back to watching every NCIS episode ever made. I can live with that.

Not going to happen today - stupid computer!

FUNNY BONE
Aging Mildred was a 93 year-old woman who was particularly despondent over the recent death of her husband Earl.
She decided that she would just kill herself and join him in death.
Thinking that it would be best to get it over with quickly, she took out Earl's old Army pistol and made the decision to shoot herself in the heart since it was so badly broken in the first place.
Not wanting to miss the vital organ and become a vegetable and burden to someone, she called her doctor to inquire as to just exactly where the heart would be.
"On a woman," the doctor said, "your heart would be just below your left breast."
Later that night, Mildred was admitted to the hospital with a gunshot wound to her knee.

My House Has Been Invaded!
Andy invited some friends over.
So they came.
Lots of them.
Normally they would head down to the basement and our massive theater room, but tonight the just want to hang with Jenni.
I am so jealous.
Then again, maybe they want to see Timothy.
Babies do that, I hear. You know, attract the attention of teenagers, especially teen aged girls. Lots of oohs, and ahhs.
One of Andy's best-est friends of all, Megan, brought over a friend of hers that is going to the same college in the fall. Wow. They are even majoring in the same thing, I think. Wanna know what is funny about the previous sentence there? I was just going to mention how he hasn't even talked to her.
I'm such a spy.
Not really.
I am actually surprised that the little ones, sans Timmy, haven't woken up yet. The volume is definitely increasing. Makes me want to say SHHHH! Like a librarian.
I'm so jealous of Librarians.
They get to say SHHHH! with such authority.
I think I am done now.
