A little bit of me, from A to Z

So I am back, we'll see for how long. For some reason, I'll blame the election and all that lead up to it, I have been amiss. And I have missed being here, honestly. I need to just sit down and take some time to share all my wit and wisdom with y'all. Excited yet?

Anyway, I thought I would share the following meme with you, feel free to play along, that will share some of my deepest darkest secrets - well hopefully not anything like that, but who knows since I haven't really taken a good look at the questions. Typical for me, those who know me, won't be shocked by that I'm sure. So let's get this party started.

Age - 45

Bed Size- Queen

Chore You Hate - Don't really hate any chores, I just don't like doing them, except for washing dishes, I really enjoy washing dishes for some reason.

Dogs - yes two; one is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (Quigley) who is eight, I believe but looks like he is fifty. Poor dog has all kind of allergy issues, so we try to make him as comfortable as possible, which can be tough. The other is a Golden Poo. :) That cracks me up, because that is one of the nicknames for our Golden Doodle puppy (Toby), he's just over half a year old, and is a big ball of fluff - 44 pounds to be exact.

Essential Start To My Day  - waking up. :)

Favorite Color - green, a nice dark green.

Gold or Silver - Gold, if I had to choose between these two, although I only wear my wedding band since I'm not that big of a jewelry fan.

House or Apartment - House, a nice and cozy little house. 

Instruments Played - Trumpet mainly, however I can play pretty much any brass instrument, and I can keep a beat on the drums as well.

Job Title - I am a senior calibration technician, and wannabe writer. Although I do consider myself to be a writer since I have written a lot of stuff, just look at this blog for one example. Over one thousand entries, not bad for a wannabe, right?

Kids - yes, seven of them; four boys and three girls.

Live - yes I live, and I like seeing things live. I really don't get this question. Silly question.

Married - yes, to the love of my wife for more than twenty wonderful years.

Never Again - never again to get married? Is that what this is asking? Another weird question, especially since I am already married. Are you asking if I would never again marry, or never again marry my wife? I would marry my wife again and again, as long as she would want me.

Other Fun Fact - Um, I like the Denver Broncos and snow.

Pet Peeve - only one? I'll give you my top two, or three... 1) Not flushing a toilet after using it, 2) making excessive noise while eating or drinking and 3) looking over my shoulder while I'm reading or writing. One more, violating my personal space, only a select few are allowed inside.

Siblings - Yes, two younger brothers.

Time You Wake Up - 5:22 is when my alarm starts going off; sometimes I get up with it, but most of the time it will be later.

University Attended - the University of Awesome, or the University of Hard Knocks. I am very proud to mention that my two oldest are successfully completing college, well the oldest graduates this May, while my second starts this fall. 

Veggies You Dislike - Eggplant, don't even have to think hard about this one. A close second is Lima Beans,

What Makes You Run Late - my kids are usually responsible for my being tardy, although I will also admit that I may be responsible on occasion.

X-Rays - yes, I've had them for my mouth, back and both pinky fingers both had been dislocated, on separate occasions, while playing basketball (right) and football (left). When I was a baby I had x-rays on my legs because my right leg wasn't pointing in the right direction, or something like that. I have no memory of it, thank goodness.

Yum Food - Pasta, pasta, pasta - with pretty much anything, aside from Lima Beans and Eggplant of course.

Zoo Animal Favorite - I really do not like zoos, but if I had to pick a favorite I would say either a cheetah or a leopard.

Crazy Eights

My friend Laura, has honored me with a tag. At least I believe it is an honor, I guess we'll see when I complete it, right?

So here goes...

Eight Things I Am Looking Forward To:

1) Sleep - I love to sleep, whenever my head allows me to.
2) Losing fifty pounds - Not just for the Kindle, but for me and my family, I would rather not die in my forties, or fifties, or sixties, seventies and eighties. Okay, maybe sometime in my eighties will be good, say Eighty-Six. Of course, that is not up to me, now is it?
3) Reading - ANYTHING! It would be really cool if it were on a Kindle.
4) Softball and Soccer Games - Nothing brings joy to my heart quite like watching my kids play and enjoy playing these sports.
5) Heaven - Although I would like to wait for another 45 odd years, if possible.
6) Cubs winning a World Series - Sure I might have to wait those 45 years for it to happen, but I still think it would be neat to see.
7) Andy going off to college - Such a great achievement for him, and I hope and pray that it will work out.
8) Star Trek - Yeah, I know, not nearly as philosophical as the previous seven - but it sure looks cool, don't you think?



Eight Things I Did Yesterday:


1) Woke Up - Praise Jesus!
2) Went to work
3) Listened to mass hysteria about a bug
4) Cancelled Soccer Practice - Lots of rain.
5) Went for a walk
6) Wrote two blog entries - did anyone notice? I've actually had a couple of days where I have written more than one a day. Crazy, aren't I?
7) Read lots of blogs - I have to keep up with my reader, otherwise it will become a major pain or I will be blowing off several of my reads, which would make me feel guilty.
8) Fell in love again with my wife and children - happens every day. They are AWESOME!




Eight Things I Wish I Could Do:

1) Write a best-selling novel
2) Go to Disney World, annually.
3) Visit all of the Disney Parks - They have one in Hong Kong, Tokyo, Anaheim, Orlando (my fav!), and Paris. Just one long road trip.
4) Have seven children... oh wait, already getting that.
5) Go to a World Cup
6) Go to the Moon
7) Become a Supreme Court Justice - have always wanted to do this, just never followed up on it - too lazy I believe.
8) See Jesus and Mary in person.

1) LOST - Oh yeah baby! One of the best shows EVER!!
2) Stargate SG-1 - Yeah, I know it's not on anymore, but I have ALL the DVD's, so I can watch it ANYTIME! Like right now.

4) Eureka - I love this show, but don't get the Sci-Fi channel, so... I only watch it, when I think about it, online.

Saved By The Colleen

So Colleen saw that I was floundering in my efforts for giving you a high quality product, so I read her post from a couple of weeks ago, where she answered questions posed to her by Maria. Knowing full well that January is a bad month for me, creatively and otherwise, I asked Colleen to ask away.

She took me seriously.

So now what? I guess I have to answer the questions, right? I mean I don't want to get a reputation for not posting something that I said I would. (Krissa, I promise to get to that meme, someday.)

So here are the five questions from Colleen and answers from me. :)

1) If there's one thing you could "implant" in your children's brains - just make them know without having to teach it to them, or fight to get your point across - what would it be?

That's easy and I wish I had the same thing, at times, and that would be the ability to manage their finances. I can't tell you how many times they get a little bit of money, for their birthdays, Christmas, or doing some sort of job like babysitting. They want to immediately go out and spend it. I swear it seems like they just want to spend, spend, spend, and on what? Some cheap piece of plastic that they will forget about in twenty minutes. Of course, the apple didn't fall too far from the tree there, but I am getting better. I think. Heck, I'm not going to Disney this year, so that's a start, right?

2) If you could "undo" anything from your past, what would it be?

I would have never bought the Toyota Celica, that I surely couldn't afford, yet managed to 'steal' my own savings to get it. What makes this incident even dumber, is that I had just bought a new car about ten months prior, so I was majorly upside-down on that loan. Let's see, what else about that car, I bought it in Colorado where you don't really need AC, but I lived in Texas, where you do. That's right, I bought a new car with no air conditioning and it didn't even have a cassette player, nor a CD player. Yeah, I can pretty much say that was my biggest mistake. Ever.

3) What was your favorite game as a child?

That would be Risk. We used to spend hours and hours playing that game of World Domination. I still play it today, only on a computer because the play is faster. In fact, I wonder where my CD is for that game. I need to do some domination again. :)

4) Crocs - love 'em or hate 'em?

Believe it or not, I like them a lot. Heck I've even worn them this winter, outside, in the snow. I don't recommend trying that, but it shows how comfortable they are. I forgot that I was wearing them. Now my Crocs are special because they are Denver Broncos Crocs. :) Andy, who swore that he wouldn't wear them, tried mine and now owns a pair of Chicago Cubs Crocs. They were very comfortable to wear in Florida, and I actually preferred wearing them over sandals.

5) Your house is on fire. Other than your family and any pets, what are the three things you'd hope to save?

To be honest the only things that I would care about saving would be my family, but since you said that they were okay. Number one would be Jenni's grandfather's hat - I love that hat and I see it everyday. I would wear it, but it's a few sizes too small. Number two would be my external hard drive, since it has all my music and pictures. Maybe someday, it will even have my great American novel on it. Finally, I would make sure that I had my car keys and wallet since I will need them to get away from the flaming carcass formerly known as my house. :) I know, I'm quite the sentimental one.

There comes a time in every blogger's life when they need to share just a few more things about their lives... Here are thirty-seven more from me.

Exciting isn't it? I mean there just may be a tidbit in these thirty-seven things that will make you ooh and ah about the man writing these words.

No really, there just might be.

1. Do you like blue cheese? Yes, usually in dressing, but I have been known to have some on a burger every now and again.

2. Have you ever smoked? Yes, but I didn't inhale. Seriously, I smoke cigarettes like cigars, and only when I am drunk and bored and at a night club. In other words, a very, very, VERY long time ago. (Kids, this does not mean that it is okay).

3. Do you own a gun? With six kids that would not be advisable.

4. What flavor Kool-Aid was your favorite? Grape.

5. Do you get nervous before doctor appointments? Nope.

6. What do you think of hot dogs? Chicago style hot dogs ROCK!!

7. Favorite Christmas movie? A Christmas Carol, almost any version. I just love that story by Charles Dickens.

8. What do you prefer to drink in the morning? It used to be Diet Coke, now it is either water or Iced Tea.

9. Can you do push ups? Sure. How many do you want me to do? Just keep the number low, please. I'm still in training.

10. What's your favorite piece of jewelry? My wedding ring

12. Do you have A.D.D.? I do not.

13. Do you wear glasses/contacts? No, 20/16 last check up, but I'm thinking that five years has past since my last check, and... maybe I'll need them soon.

17. Current worry? I really don't worry about anything, except when the kids or my wife are travelling.

18. Current hate right now? Mosquito bites (Lots of those suckers!)

19. Favorite place to be? Home with my family, or Scotland, or... Disney World!!

20. How did you bring in the new year? By watching the kids and their friends celebrate it, or by sleeping.

23. Do you own slippers? No.

24. What shirt are you wearing? A Walt Disney World 2004 character shirt with; Mickey, Donald, Goofy and Pluto on it. It is gray and the characters are drawn in black and white. The only color on the shirt is a red number 2, a yellow number 0, a green number 0, and a blue number 4.

25. Do you like sleeping on satin sheets? No. Don't want to slide off.

26. Can you whistle? Yes.

27. Favorite color? Emerald Green.

28. Would you be a pirate? Sure if this were the fifteenth century, looks like a good time.

29. What songs do you sing in the shower? I don't sing in the shower, it takes too much energy that early in the morning.

30. Favorite Girl's Name? I have four; Jennifer, Jessica, Kaitlynn, and Margaret also known as Jenni, Jessie, Katie and Maggie.

31. Favorite boy's name? Nicholas Alexander, probably some Slavic influence there, I'm not sure. I am also fond of Andrew, Benjamin and Daniel.

32. What's in your pocket right now? No pockets on these shorts, so nothing.

33. Last thing that made you laugh? My two-year old getting excited about some cantaloupe. Although this is a close second...



34. What vehicle do you drive? A 2000 Plymouth Voyager mini-van.

35. Worst injury you've ever had? I have dislocated both of my pinkies; one while playing basketball, the other while playing football. Oh, and both of my ankles are pretty loose (I guess that's the term for very weak ligaments) from years playing soccer.

36. Do you love where you live? Yes. The house could be bigger, but I really don't have any complaints other than petty neighbor things.

37. How many TVs do you have in your house? Too many. Seven, with only four hooked up for cable, really, really basic cable.

Seven Wild and Amazing Facts (Or what I try to do to get attention)

Okay, Alane over at Confessions of a SAHM (Stay At Home Mom, for all of you that aren't quite acronym literate), tagged me with a little meme about, well, me. I of course, being a good little blogger said, "Sure I'll play along."

First The Rules:

1) Link to your tagger and post these rules on your blog (Okay, I have done that, but in case you missed it, go here to see who Alane is and her seven things).
2) Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird. (Maybe I will shoot for just randomly weird, adds some excitement to the mix).
3) Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blogs. (Okay, this will be more difficult since whenever I tag someone, they don't always comply. In an attempt to beat that "curse" I choose you. Yes you. You who just read that past sentence, or two, and this one. So, TAG you're it!) (only if you want to, of course)

So here goes... something:

1) I am a convert to the Roman Catholic faith, although convert is kind of too strong of a word, since I was baptized and confirmed in the Eastern Greek Orthodox Church (or was it the Russian Orthodox?), anyway, one of the promises that I made to Jenni when we were married was that I would go through the RCIA (Right of Christian Initiation for Adults) process and become a full fledged Roman Catholic. After seven months and plenty of build up to my confirmation (Catholics can see where this is going), I was 'welcomed' to the Church. So much for using Maximilian as a confirmation name. That's okay, I still have Peter and Paul from the other one. :)

2) I have always wanted to have six daughters (no, really). Even had names picked out; Samantha, Tabitha, Jessica, Rebecca, Veronica and Jennifer. No, I didn't like 'Bewitched' and apparently I couldn't think of another name that ended in an 'A.' God has saw to it that I have at least three, I am so blessed. Jenni didn't go for "my" names either, although we do have a Jessica. One out of six, not too bad.

3) I have a mail-ordered bride. We'll let that sink in for a minute, okay now we'll move on to the jokes about me being so ugly that I had to "mail it in." Finally, I will let you all off the hook and tell you that Jenni is not mail-ordered, but I did meet her through the mail. You see, I was a young airman stationed in England writing letters to my cousin in Colorado. She had a best friend - Jenni. Well one letter from Tanya, Jenni wrote a little blurb of a hello. The rest is, as we say, history. Maybe I'll share the whole story some day.

4) I am a die-hard Denver Broncos fan. Can't add anything to that now can I?

5) I am a prolific reader and have on occasion read several books at the same time (one at work, one in the car, one in the bathroom, one...).

6) I used to watch the Weather Channel, and actually enjoy it. Back when they just told the weather. Kind of like MTV back when they actually played music. Nothing better than a cold front descending upon the hot plains of western Texas, let me tell you. Now that was living!

7) I love the beautiful game of soccer. Love to play it (okay loved to play it - that dog just don't hunt no more. At least I have elastic ankles that can predict the weather now), love to coach it and love to watch it, especially on the Spanish stations. They get so animated, who cares if I can't understand them, my eyes see the magic on the field.

Okay that is seven, and I hope that you have learned something about moi. Why? I don't know, just because Alane said so.

Here are the rules:

Okay, the nearest book of at least that length is.... Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.

This is what I found after sentence number 5...

Not as earth-shattering or as noble as Jenni's choice, but it was the closest book, and one I am currently reading (been on a Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. kick for some reason).

A Meme by ME(me)!

Okay, I have seen this a couple of times in the blogosphere, so I of course had to try it. It is a photo meme, whatever that means, which is basically a pictorial presentation of me. Doesn't that sound exciting? Anyway, the way you do this is to answer questions, using images from Google. For example, I would put in the age at my next birthday (41) and then pick a picture from the first page of choices that Google gives me. Sounds simple enough, but then again....
