Fox Hunt

My favorite sports team is the Denver Broncos, although I will admit that the Chicago Blackhawks seem to be gaining on them. No matter what though, the Denver Broncos will always be my favorite professional football team. Not to mistaken with one of my other favorite football teams Real Madrid or Manchester United.

Anyway.

So the Broncos have won the AFC West four years in a row, and for the last three it's been pretty much a cakewalk since we have one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, although I still think John Elway is better. :)

Pretty good, right?

Yeah, but....

Knew there was a yeah but didn't you?

Let's look at what that means, shall we?

  • 2011 - finish 8-8 wins AFC West (with Tim Tebow), they then beat Pittsburgh in OT at home and get shellacked by New England in Foxboro.
  • 2012 - finish 13-3, wins AFC West, lose the first playoff game (divisional)
  • 2013 - finish 13-3, wins AFC West, lose Super Bowl 48 (XLVIII if you insist)
  • 2014 - finish 12-4, wins AFC West, lose the first playoff game (divisional)
Both divisional losses were at home. Denver rarely, if ever loses at home. They went 8-0 at home this season, well 8-1 since they lost yesterday.

So, what to do?

I was thinking, as well as many of my fellow Broncos fans, that a coaching change was in order. Maybe get a coach that isn't afraid to take a chance, with one of the greatest quarterbacks in the history of the NFL under center. I am referencing Coach Fox's decision to kneel on the ball with 31 seconds left in that playoff loss in 2012 to Baltimore (Super Bowl champions that year). I mean Peyton Freaking Manning  THRIVES on occasions like that. When I saw it live, I couldn't believe that we did it, in fact, no one did. We also had one of the best field goal kickers of 50+ yards on the team at the time, so Manning only had to get them 50 yards, in 31 seconds, with all three timeouts remaining. Yeah, that game still doesn't sit well with me.

Anyway, as I got on my plane for my trip to Kentucky (hi y'all), I was thinking that there would be no way the Broncos get rid of Fox.

I was wrong.

Fox is gone, Del Rio (Defensive Coordinator) is gone, in fact, the entire coaching staff is gone. Personally, I would have kept Studesville (RBs coach) and who knows, maybe the new guy will bring him back - he did have some excellent running backs working for him.

So, what does this mean? It means that John Elway the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time) gets to pick the next coach (true, he did pick Fox), that will help get the franchise over this hump, while (hopefully) keeping Manning playing, and takes them to the ultimate and win Super Bowl 50.

What can I say, I'm a dreamer.

Who Dat? Comes Marching In

Out here in the fields, I fight for my meals, I get my back
into my living, I don't need to fight, to prove I'm right, I don't need to be forgiven
~ The Who

First off, let me say that I really didn't watch much of the game. I know that may shock some of you, but without the Broncos playing (or the Eagles, and maybe the Bears) I really don't care.

Really.

I guess I am just a fan of the Broncos, and not necessarily football.

Sue me.

The commercials were, well commercials. Although I must admit liking this one...

I mean if you can't make a little fun of yourself, then ...

*****

So New Orleans has won the Super Bowl, all I have to say is that Mardis Gras is gonna be an extra special party this year fo sho!

*****

In other news, the girls (Jessie and Katie) both met the Bishop today and received their religious awards for scouts. Pretty awesome, even if it was a really long ceremony. At least the cathedral wasn't really hot, or cold for that matter.

*****

I will have pictures of the wacky bowlers up later this week, as long as I can get them from Jessie that is. They were on here camera.

*****

Finally, I think that The Who should hang up their guitars and microphones, because it ain't working anymore. Call it a career and relax on the beach.

Seriously.

*****

Oh yeah, congratulations to the New Orleans Saints, winners of Super Bowl XLIV!

Now you know what to do Broncos! Speaking of which, I think I forgot to mention that one of my all-time favorite Broncos finally got what he deserves, being enshrined at the National Football League Hall of Fame. Congratulations to number 44, Floyd Little!

*****

That's it, you can go home now.

That's One Creepy Doll

The scientists of today think deeply instead of clearly. One must be sane to think clearly, but one can think deeply and be quite insane. ~ Nikola Tesla

So the Christmas season has come to an end here and we have a strange new echo in the house. I also am at the beginning of the worst time of the year for me, personally, and for many others. You know what I mean, Christmas decorations put away, snow on the ground, cold temperatures and grey skies.

Yep, it must mean that my beloved Denver Broncos are done playing for the year.

What? Did you think I was going to go on and on about my mental condition? Shoot, I have plenty of time for that - stay tuned. I actually was looking forward to tomorrow, about five weeks ago. That was because the Broncos were in charge of their destiny, playoff-wise, but no, they had to throw a huge monkey wrench into my plans and lose to the Raiders (expletives deleted Raiders!) and Chiefs, at home.

Ridiculous.

So, instead of me talking smack about the Patriots and how we OWNED them earlier in the season, I have to talk about how the Broncos, once again, decided to break millions of hearts across the country - not to mention in Denver.

You know what? Life is too short for whining about some silly game that grown men play, right?

Instead, I shall show you something that, literally, just caught mine and Jenni's eye.

Too funny.

Who knew that the post office could be so creepy funny?

Sure Hope He Has A Plan

As you all may know, the Denver Broncos are my favorite professional football team.

Ever.

I've had to deal with three not-so-stellar seasons, as of late, which caused Mike Shanahan to lose his job. Anyway, the offense is/was AWESOME. Ranked number 2, in fact. However their defense was rather porous.

Today is draft day in the world of the NFL, and Denver had two first round picks, in part because the new coach McDaniels had a little tiff with the starting quarterback, Jay Cutler, and had him traded to the Bears for their first round pick, this year and next, plus a number three and Kyle Orton. They acquired three more running backs during the off-season, and some defensive backs during free agency.

Cool, that means that we are going to just have to concentrate on defensive linemen and linebackers, right?

Wrong.

They picked one, defensive lineman in their first five picks.

ONE!

The remaining four were, get this, a running back, two defensive backs, and a tight end.

I wonder what Mike Shanahan is thinking right now?

Probably just a little chuckle, I'm sure.

Sunday Smorgasbord - Broncos Edition

You know those new Verizon Wireless commercials, with the two ladies talking about a phone and if it was the last one, who would get it? HI-LAR-IOUS!! (in my humble opinion, of course).

Well, Thanksgiving week is over, turkey is all eaten, and all visiting family members are either home, or on their way... No visits to the hospital, no fights among the cousins (except maybe some minor drama between a six and four year old), and no BIG drama among the adults! No we can concentrate on our upcoming trip, you know, the one to Disney World. Maybe you heard me mention it a time or two. Only eighty-seven and a half hours until we leave, as of this exact moment. (It's 5:30PM in case you were wondering).

Crap.
Cutler just threw a stupid interception and now the Jets are driving... Oh, and ANOTHER Broncos defensive player is hurt. Not good. At least San Diego is losing right now as well.

These Sunday Smorgasbords are turning into some live blogging as well. Bonus!

QUESTION TIME

See how I did that? I started a question time section for you... Meaning here are a few questions for you my gentle readers...
1) This one comes courtesy of my French friend Catherine... Better interview (as in whom would you prefer to interview); Barack Obama or Nicholas Sarkozy? - Michelle Obama or Carla Bruni?

2) Pumpkin or Cherry Pie?

3) Any pictures from Disney World you would like me to take? I'll take it for you, if you'd like.

See how painless that was? On to another update from the Broncos-Jets game... two more injured Denver defensive players (I kid you not), ridiculous! But the defense holds and only gives up 3... whew! 27-17 now.

Why is it that my six-year old and my nine-year old want to keep fighting with each other? I mean I'm pretty sure that me and my brother never did that. Must be a girl thing. :) Good thing they are going to get their own rooms early next year. Of course, they'll probably miss each other then. I just hope that they remember to always be there for each other when they grow up, and maybe for me as well.

GIVING YOU THE BIRD (of the week)

Fourth quarter begins...

And more Broncos are falling by the wayside, what the heck is going on here?

Okay Burger King, I really don't care what people that have never tried a Whopper or a Big Mac think of each sandwich. Sorry, it's just not going to matter to me, or most Americans, in my opinion. I mean most Americans (myself included) shouldn't be eating them anyway, right. Plus, I imagine that they will have chosen the Whopper, considering the commercials are sponsored by Burger King.

Have I mentioned my distaste for commercialism lately? Except maybe them there Verizon commercials...

News of the freakin' insane...

Parents using DNA to find right sport for kids.

BOULDER, Colo. — When Donna Campiglia learned recently that a genetic test might be able to determine which sports suit the talents of her 2 ½-year-old son, Noah, she instantly said, Where can I get it and how much does it cost?

“I could see how some people might think the test would pigeonhole your child into doing fewer sports or being exposed to fewer things, but I still think it’s good to match them with the right activity,” Ms. Campiglia, 36, said as she watched a toddler class at Boulder Indoor Soccer in which Noah struggled to take direction from the coach between juice and potty breaks.
“I think it would prevent a lot of parental frustration,” she said.

I bet she's a transplant from California.

Broncos just got a touch down!!! Cutler to Stokely, for a 36 yard strike... 34-17, AND San Diego lost! Whoop-whoop!

Now Jenni and Benjy are making fun of me. :( I don't think I care at this moment, I mean they know how I am when it comes to the Broncos.

Christopher Jamison, the Abbot of Worth in West Sussex, has accused the corporation of "exploiting spirituality" to sell its products and of turning Disneyland into a modern day pilgrimage site.

He argues that it pretends to provide stories with a moral message, but has actually helped to create a more materialistic culture.

In a guide to helping people find happiness, the abbot, who starred in the hit-BBC series The Monastery, warns that society is in danger of losing its soul because of growing consumerism and the decline of religion.

He suggests that many people have become obsessed with work, sex and eating in an attempt to ignore their underlying unhappiness, and criticises corporations and industries that have benefited from promoting false notions of fulfilment.

Fr Jamison, who has been tipped as a contender to succeed Cardinal Cormac Murphy O'Connor as the next Archbishop of Westminster, targets the behaviour of Disney in particular, which he says is "a classic example" of how consumerism is being sold as an alternative to finding happiness in traditional morality.

Of course, he next says...

While he acknowledges that Disney stories carry messages showing good triumphing over evil, he argues this is part of a ploy to persuade people that they should buy Disney products in order to be "a good and happy family".

You can read the whole thing at the link.

Well, I have to go and clean the kitchen, and it looks like the Broncos will win!
