My First Contest!!

I want to thank Jeff over at View From The Cloud, and a proud member of The Receders (go buy their stuff, it's available at Amazon and iTunes(no link, I assume you know how to get there) it's good!) for this great idea.

A Contest.

A Contest with a REAL PRIZE!!

Yes!!!

You all have been waiting for me to finally breakdown and give something away, admit it now, you know that it's true. Best part, it's easy to enter, just write your entry in the comment box, or I'll even accept a Face book entry, but since you are reading about it here, why not just comment. :)

As you may, or may not, know, we are having a baby! Our seventh! So, in honor of our new son's birth, we thought that we would have a pool for you to enter, guessing our newborn son's birth date, birth time, birth weight and birth length.

Piece of cake right?

Here's a hint: The date will, more than likely be June 30. That doesn't mean that you have to guess the 30th, but it will improve your odds greatly.

Next hint: We have to be at the hospital by 6AM, to start the induction process. Unless he decides to show up on his own, sooner, which means guessing a date earlier than June 30, might be beneficial.

What do you win? A $10 gift card to your choice of Borders, or Barnes and Noble. If you get everything exactly correct; you will get one of each. Pretty cool, right?

How do you enter? Easy. Leave a comment stating the Birthday, time, weight and length of our latest addition, in the comment box. We will then compare your answers to the actual event, and if you are the closest, as deemed by the judge (Jenni), then you win!

Extra bonus best part!!! You can make more than one guess, but be aware that we are doing a "first come first served" contest here, which basically means if there are duplicate answers, we will go with the first comment in the box. (I hope that makes sense).

Finally, the decision of the judge (Jenni) is final. Sounds harsh, but it has to be.

What are you waiting for? Get guessing!!

God Bless!!
Roger and Jenni

More Old Contest Entries

This is another contest entry, which had to start with the words 'I used to think...' A contest that I had fun with, at least I think I did. Although my muse seemed to have a little more fun than I did. :-)

I used to think…

Pardon?

I said I used to think.

Actually you thought it. No speaking involved here, except in your head of course.

What are you talking about? I clearly spoke the words; I used to think.

Okay, okay. You SAID them. Only problem is, I’m the only one listening.

And who, exactly are you?

I’m what you might call your conscience. Or maybe your left brain, your muse, the dude that puts those wicked thoughts into your head.

That’s you? I thought I did it all myself.

Really? How have you been these past couple of weeks? Just churning out stories I bet. Better yet, you are coming up with these really dumb contest ideas. I mean ‘I used to think’ isn’t exactly the best sentence in the world.

Yeah, but…

Yeah but I put in the ellipses so that people could just add on to the first four words. You were going to say that weren’t you?

Yes.

See, I can read your thoughts. I know your deepest fears, your happiest joys. I know that you truly love Pralines and Cream ice cream and cannot stand eggplant.

Everybody knows that.

Sure, only after you told them. You see my friend you are nothing without me. You are just a regular person without much to think about except your lovely wife and kids. By the way, without me, she wouldn’t be your wife you know.

What?

Remember all those letters you used to write to her?

Yes. They were quite good. She even said so herself.

Well, if I weren’t with you they would have been lifeless and she would not have wanted to meet you in person.

Liar.

Look deep down, because you know that it’s true.

So what.

So what? Are you mad man! Without me you would probably be still be floundering at a job you don’t like, getting paid a mere pittance of what you are worth.

Uh, about that.

Don’t tell me? Come on man! I’ve only been gone for a couple of weeks.

Yeah but, before that you were gone for a long time. I’d guess somewhere around fifteen years. Where were you then? Vacationing in the Barbados?

Actually, yes, they are quite nice.

Whatever.

Okay, I am sorry. I thought that you wouldn’t mind me being gone. I have met a rather wide variety of people, as of late. Can you blame me?

Yes.

Okay, so what’s your problem? Damsel in distress, world need saving? Oh, how is that Route sixty-six thing going? You finished it right?

Well, it’s not my turn.

Turn! Since when did we start taking turns? Heck Norbanus alone would crank out three or four chapters in a row. Do you think that he was worried about it being his turn? So where is Jamie?

At the airport, doing police stuff.

Oh my, this is worse than I thought. We need to get him over to Lila’s apartment and… What?
Can we put that on a back burner for a while? I have five contests that I have entered, and they are all coming up to their deadlines pretty soon.Okay, fine. When is the deadline for this ‘I used to think’ story?

Today.

Oh, I need a vacation. How about the rest?

Well, I have another contest due today, but it looks like its deadline will be extended due to a lack of entries. Then I have two more due in two days, and another three days later. See it isn’t that bad, right?

Maybe you ought to see somebody.

That’s actually the theme, of sorts, for one of the contests I entered.

Oh yeah. Is it an I’m-addicted-to-Fanstory-contests-and-can’t-stop-entering-them’ contest?

Close. Just the addiction part, but I have been blank for a while. Plus the other entries are so good, that I’m afraid.

Always was a big pussycat. Okay, so let’s see I used to think… Is there anyway you can change the terms of the contest?

No. In fact, I kind of mislead people into thinking that the first sentence had to be I used to think… Without telling them that they could fill-in anything afterwards.

Well, I’m sure that they understand I was away. You did tell them right?

I kind of implied it, here and there.

Maybe I should just ‘kind of’ help you then.

No, no, no. Please. I am so sorry; I shouldn’t have taken you for granted. I need you to be with me, to help me through this mess, because…

Because what?

Without you I’d just be, well you know, floundering.

Hopefully the other contest will get extended, because I’m having a hard time dealing with you, let alone a whole other story.

Thank you. Can we get started? The deadline is in five hours.

I used to think…

Because I like causes of all kind, especially fun ones, I am encouraging all three of you to go and visit Trish here and bring your creativity! It could win you a cool new T-shirt. Or better yet, some cool new blogger friends.

Oh, the slogans are to be of the blog-related type: You know something like "Blog This" or "My mom goes on vacation and all she did was blog." Hey, that one might work. I call it! Dibs on that slogan... I'm off to enter it, now.

Bye-bye!

P.S. - Don't forget to visit Trish (because I might get some new bling. ) Seriously, it looks like a cool little site to visit, complete with mistakes, errors, boo boos strike outs. :)

Guitar Heroes Ruin School Work for Hard-Working Man (Yeah Right)

Oh my!

I only posted a little blurb about changing the template and that was it. The Blog365 people are going to be mad at me. Excuse me for having a tough day....

Worked ten hours, or was it twelve? And this was actual work, not sit around with free moments galore work. I was getting frazzled. Even my lovely bride told me that I should leave and get away - oh and to pick up LHS from work (he's still grounded from driving). Do being the dutiful husband that I am, I came home.

Then I had the tough task of taking control of the Wii for a little more than an hour, playing Guitar Hero III.

Yes I did.

Got myself a couple of five star reviews even.

Maybe I should move up to Medium, eh?

Or not. After all, I have a goal of getting at least four star reviews before moving on to the next song, much to the annoyance of my family that has to listen to 'My Name is Jonas' by Weezer, six times in a row. Okay, maybe not for THAT song, but there have been songs that I play over and over and... I think I am at level five now, after just besting the "European Invasion" section.

Hey go over and check out Manic's site later today. She is hosting an awards show for all of the blood donor's in Manic's First Annual Blood Drive. There were thirty-three donors in all, that is ninety-nine lives saved. How awesome is that? Yea Manic!!

Back to my 'tough' day.

I then watched my kids play GH III, after all the family that plays Guitar Hero together stays together. :)

The rest of the eveing is a blur... I remember looking at my school work that is due, then I came up with excuse that because I didn't have a three-hole punch I just couldn't concentrate. That and Metallica's "One" on Guitar Hero might of had something to do with it. Can't wait until we get that second guitar!

Then there was the half-hearted attempt at making something to eat, my five-year old little Magpie decided that throwing away the rest of the dinner that was prepared for all, was necessary. Of course, this also happened while I was playing the game. I think. So I took some radiotore (sic) pasta, some corn, some tuna, some cheddar from Vermont (thanks again for the gift Mom and Dad!), some pepper, garlic salt and mayo. Mix it all together and you have, something. Tasted alright to me, although the cheddar was a tad bit sharper than I was expecting. Magpie said it smelled, Monster kept saying "some, some" until he tried it and made that sucking on a lemon face, Cuddlebug said she liked it. Those were the only comments I remember from it, if the other four people in my house said anything about it I don't recall it.

Last thing I remember was watching Benjy playing "Anarchy in the U.K." while I was lying on the coach.

You guessed it. At 4:17am my alarm went off and I was still on the coach. So restful. Not.

Now I am back at work, trying to make amends for yesterday, BEFORE the work begins. I love my job. Really, I do.

I think.

***Extra Note -- before anyone gets the misguided idea that all we do is play video games, I must point out that the boys could not play until they had all of their school work done, the girls were busy "cleaning" their rooms. Rooms that looked really good AFTER mom went through the inspection process (i.e. cleaning up after the cleaning). So there. Besides, isn't Tuesday night game night in your households?

Have a great day!

Ah,To Give Blood!

Yes, the call is out there and very few of you are answering it.

So, with great risk to myself (hadn't told Mrs. Bug this part yet), I have decided to match Manic Mom's donations dollar for dollar.

You heard me right.

So , get over to the blood bank, give a vein, snap a pic and send it on in to manicmommy@comcast.net

If you don't, you will miss out on saving someones life. You heard me. Your pint of blood can save a life, today! I guarantee if I could give the blood, I would, but because the power's that be seem to think I may have contracted Mad-Cow Disease (mwaah haa haa), I am banned.

I have AB Positive blood, which is a very rare blood type. Only 3% in the USA, share the same blood type as me. So, you would think that they could make an exception for me. I could lie, but, what if I really did have Mad-Cow and got someone sick? I could see the headlines now:

BLOOD DONOR TAINTS SUPPLY WITH MAD-COW!! (film at eleven)

Manic is at four donors, as of this writing, I want to see it at eight by this time tomorrow. Or, I'll cry, or something more radical, I'll come to YOUR house and sing Karaoke!

So get donating.
